What do you see when you type "fdisk -l" from the rescue CD?  IIRC, the default 
LVM configuration includes a /boot partition, which seems to be what's amiss.

Now that I think of it, you may need to use LVM commands in order to see the 
logical volumes.  If "fdisk -l" doesn't turn up anything, try "vgscan" followed 
by "vgchange -a y"
