Very intersting thread I just stumbled upon.  Apparently, RedHat had
this exact same conversation back in November.

According to http://mharris.ca/xorg/xorg-modularization-status.html,
they are installing the fonts into /usr/share/X11/fonts and (I
believe) adding /usr/share/X11/fonts/{Type1,OTF} to fonts.conf.
