I didn't know about version 3, but looking at the project page, it first
got released in November. We should work on getting that into BLFS.

As long as we have 2.0.8 in the book, I'd rather not the default for now
and wait till we move to version 3 and get the change by default.
I will check in the changes to use the variables, though.
