My thoughts on 2.7 were summarised at

in early September. Since then, gnome-2.34 has come out. I don't know if
that has improved things, but while the book is still using gnome-2.32, I
think Python-2.7 is a bit too bleeding edge (I can cope with workarounds,
but I get queasy at using development versions of gnome-ish packages).
For Python-3, I have no interest so long as gnome doesn't need it.
