 This is caused by your own choice in not installing python.

 The book instructions are correct and work correctly.  It is unlikely that
 you will receive assistance with this as I believe that most, if not all
 of the current editors install python.  In BLFS a recommended package
 means that it really should be installed otherwise you will receive
 unexpected results.

 Your best cause of action for this is to post to the libreoffice mailing
 lists.
