On my only i686 system (LFS-7.6, gcc-4.9.1) this builds and installs ok
with the plain --enable-optimize (which appears to end up as -O3).
Time and space are a different matter - on i686, 3.1GB and 55m17s (23 SBU)
using -j2 and my normal config; on x86_64 7.7 3.8GB and 66m39 [ -j1 ]
using the book's config for 24 SBU.
I surmise that the build time on i686 with -j1 will be a lot more than
24SBU.
The x86_64 ld used about 1.65GB of memory according to top, ISTR adding
that to the disk space in the past because of the temporary file.
