You may have noticed a change in some of blfs-book's mail messages. The
From: headers now say
via blfs-book <[email protected]>
instead of the original poster's email address. The original poster IS
written to the Reply-To: portion of the email header.
This is a change caused by some email providers (Google, etc) giving
notice that they will start enforcing DMARC policy changes
https://dmarc.org/2015/10/global-mailbox-providers-deploying-dmarc-to-protect-users/
I'll need to change all the mailing lists eventually but we have a few
months for that. Right now the change is only on blfs-book.
This works really well. Thanks for addressing it so quickly. We'll be ready
when GMail pulls the trigger on this.
My initial view was _slightly_ less positive, but it didn't get
through. Bruce tells me I am now whitelisted, so I'll try again,
but this time using 'reply to all' :
It seems to do the job for dealing with DMARC, but two comments:
1. For most posters on these lists, replies used to go to the list
as a matter of course (and people who set Reply-To have always been
a pain for breaking that : if we have to, we have to) and now by
default replies will go to the poster, not to the list. I suspect
people will start to reply to all.
2. The reply to the list is actually sent to the poster's name via
the list (with the list name in the address). Seems odd.
It looks like your message got through this time.
I agree that the reply is not optimal, but it's the best we can do if
email servers are going to reject the previous method.
To a certain extent, the reply/reply all behavior is dependent on the mail
client. In the case of this message, I did have to delete two "To:"
addresses to go back just to the list when I did 'Reply All'. That really
shouldn't be that much of an issue on blfs-book, but -dev and -support is
another situation.
I use seamonkey as a mail client and when I select 'Reply' it gives me the
options of 'Reply' and 'Reply to List'. The 'Reply to List' limits
responses to just the list.
