AFAICS, NTLM is for authenticating to a Windows proxy server - there is a
project at sourceforge to allow this to be used from non-windows, but I
don't think we care.
For the resource usage, I am not convinced this will make a difference (it
is 'Web Content' which seems to take the cycles).
The security expiration thing appears to be for binaries.
