This has also been something I've wondered. The patches have header information. Why is it necessary to do a propset on them in addition? It adds extra information that doesn't seem to be needed and can introduce unneeded differences between 2 otherwise identical patches that may have different names (which is the case when simply updating a patch name to match package version). In the interest of being able to maintain the repo long term, it would be nice to be able to just diff patches that are suspected identical. -- Archaic Want control, education, and security from your operating system?
