Everyone responding so far (and it has only been few hours) reports that they set the flag in /etc/fstab to do auto checks of the filesytems at boot time. I wonder why this issue has never been brought up before? Seems if so many folks do something contrary to the book's instructions, it would have been reported. Oh well, no reason to comment.
