Here's my rough recollections on various project's release numbering
policies:
GCC - x.x.0 - unstable for all intents and purposes
DocBook-XSL - x.x.0 - unstable
Linux Kernel - ??? - I personally don't trust initial Linus releases
much, the 2.6.x.x releases seem to be OK.
Shadow - heh, your guess is as good as mine given the current run of
buggy releases just recently.
Udev - At least the release numbers are consistent :)
Flex - don't even go there!
