Perhaps I should just point a link to the docs. No sense re-writing
what already exists.

Yes, it does work. However, as Jürg pointed out, and I discovered
last night, each user must start his session daemon first. Along
with the methods mentioned by Jürg, I found the following works
great for GNOME if you use startx to start GNOME. Change the
startup line in .xinitrc to:

exec dbus-launch gnome-session

I'll be added the various methods to start the session daemon to
the instructions.
