Guys,

The method documented in the svn book doesn't work for me. The script
that the 15-alsa.rules file associates with udev's discovery of a
control interface is never apparently called (Udev-063).

I also don't seem to be able to get the snd_pcm_oss module loaded, which
is required for realplayer.

I read though the long threads on this, and I'm not convinced that a
proper solution has been found yet. Or is it perhaps that something
necessary has been left undocumented.

Okay, this feels sort of off topic given the direction of discussion in this thread. This is the only message that brings it to light. Are we currently satisfied with the alsa volume restoration? The bug is really old and I had forgotten about it...again. I don't see anymore hints after reading this thread, to bring the old bootscript back. Also, do we need a link back to LFS to avoid this problem in the future?

I have no doubt that future BLFS will need to tackle udev, IMO on one page (obviously multiple pages in the PDF version) in the Post-LFS Config section, but that should be a different bug...and contain a big portion of what has been written in this thread.
