Yes it is. I have managed to install a KDE-3.5 on a QT-3.3.5. Works well
(so far...)
Perhaps there should be a warning in the book that building qt in a
chroot environment may cause a failure to build.
I would recommend the users to use the newly built system as soon as
possible.
