Okay then, in your opinion is it worth moving the book from 2.12.1 to
2.12.2?
I'm not sure. I have no idea how much work is involved. In the short term I
need to read the editors guide and sort out the nitty gritty details of how
things work, then maybe updating one or two of the Gnome packages may be a
simple place to start. BLFS is a very big wheel and I'm just a small cog. If I
push too hard too soon I'll just grind the teeth of the gears. I'd like to
start slowly and safely.
If so, let's go off-line and continue this discussion about how
you can help out.
I think it's probably best to keep discussions about the book on the list so
others can offer opinions?
Biggest thing is
just ensuring everything builds according to the existing instructions,
and it works as it's supposed to.
Indeed. I don't know how to do that yet. There are hundreds of little details to be checked. Like hidden dependencies. How do you check just what (of the things already installed) is needed by the next package?
Of course, if you have better installation methods for any/all of the
packages, I'm all ears. :-)
Bottom line is, Andy, you can have as much of the GNOME as you want
to and have time for. Let me know.
We'll see how it goes. Hopefully (after my inevitable newbie
mistakes/stupidity/issues) it'll develop organically, through discussion.
