Sorry for the delay, I meant to send this a few days ago, so I waited and added... :-)

The /usr/X11 is closer to the traditional location. It just 'feels'
right to me, but that really isn't a good reason. I could go with /usr
and optionally /usr/X11 though.

I don't see how /usr/X11 is any better than /usr/X11R7 in this case. I'm still adverse to both for the book, but only because of the FHS issue. As you can see, I really care for my own box...the 'test' render uses /usr/X11R7 and has been updated. The text is still somewhat out of whack (no accurate descriptions, installed files, times, size or md5s) but it should provide a solid build. If you'd like to build it, the istructions were put together over 10 or so actual builds....and such calls for the usual disclaimer: it's not part of BLFS and hasn't been through a thorough test. Use your head and read it before you blindly copy and paste commands. http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/~dj/blfs-xorg7/x/xorg7.html The xorg7.xml is section xi'd in my local copy so I should be able to get the other layout done quickly....it will definately look better than the 50 screen tags there now. Tomorrow evening maybe.

I'm not sure if 6.9.0 should be X11R6 or X11R7. We are told that the
code is the same, but the numbering implies R6. If we update the book
to 6.9.0, I lean toward leaving it as X11R6.

Yes, I agree.
