Dan,i don't know if you aware of this,but since 1.5 firefox uses a back/forward 
mechanism that stores previously visited pages in memory.
You can disable this entirely by seting browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewers
to 0.

Also note that the cached pages are for session and not per tab.
