Sounds to me as though you made things *much* too difficult on yourself. It installed properly already, with no changes and with only one command: make -C gdb install. It is my opinion that doing all that sed stuff and explaining things, is unreasonable extra steps and work for nothing. It is the wrong thing to be telling users to do.
