I found this bug because I noticed arts was working (you could run it from the command line) but knotify couldn't start arts. So I checked some known gslice bugs in combination with kde and found out glib>=2.9.1 causes this behaviour.
Recompiling knotify without fast-malloc was just a guess because it's all about memory management. After this fixed knotify I recompiled kdelibs without fast-malloc and everything worked.
I found someone saying on a kde list that fast-malloc shouldn't be used anymore but he didn't state why.
