If you think a note is
needed for Mesa to show the availibility of freeglut, just let me know
and I'll get it in the 7.1 update. Hope that helps clarify it a bit.
Actually, it doesn't clarify it a bit for me, as Xorg-7 does one
thing and all other X installations do another thing. This must be
identified, especially when there is text in BLFS that claims the
installations are the same, only a build method separates them.
They are the same _if_ built by the book (which includes all xorg
packages and the recommended MesaDemos package). You can _optionally_
add a libglut. We will probably disagree compltely on that vantage
point. :-) Fortunately, the difference is not worth discussing now, as
the note *must* be removed with the update to Xorg-7.1 since they are
not the same code anymore.
OT: I'm working on the 7.1 update now. I've built all the packages
except for the new server release (I used a CVS checkout last night of
the 1.1 branch to complete the initial prep). I won't commit until I
rebuild completely, which I probably will not finish tonight.
At this point, and what the subject was all about, is that the
LibTIFF instructions are wrong. I stand by that assertion.
Oh, I don't disagree with that at all. I just tried to provide some
background to the questions you had asked. Archaic had already answered
the question. I'll see if I can add info at both locations when I
update (probably tomorrow evening now).
