Just some info about updated packages I've used.
If I have any special notes, they will be listed. Otherwise, the
package works fine with existing commands.
gnutls-2.0.4: ticket #2419
linux-pam-0.99.9.0: ticket #2421
gnupg-2.0.8: ticket#2422 to update to 2.0.7. Should be
updated to 2.0.8.
sudo-1.6.9p8: another update to an existing ticket (#2249).
pcre-7.4: ticket #2435
popt-1.10.7:
gamin-1.9: #2437
libxml2-2.6.30: #2438
libxslt-1.1.22: #2439
gmp-4.2.2: #2441. Requires ABI=32 when compiling on 64 bit proc, even
when whole system is compiled pure 32 bit. This also applied
to 4.2.1.
glib-2.14.5:
libidl-1.8.9:
libgsf: 1.14.7:
libglade-2.6.2:
libidn-1.2: Requires --enable-java to use java. No api directory in
doc. Could be because I don't have gtk-doc, but the
directions say 'rebuild', implying the api docs should be
there regardless. They are not in 1.2.
dbus-1.1.2: installs things into /usr/libexec. Needs
--libexecdir=/usr/lib to conform with the rest of the book.
libgpg-error-1.6:
libpng-1.2.22: Someone on the list has reported 1.2.24 as working
giflib-4.1.6:
lcms-1.17:
libmng-1.0.10:
librsvg-2.18.2:
imlib_loaders-1.4.0: Not exactly an update, but I think this package
should be listed as an optional download on imlib2's page.
fribidi-0.10.9:
poppler-0.6.1: Also, data package up to version 0.1.1
desktop-file-utils-0.14:
xscreensaver-5.0.4:
pinentry-0.7.4:
pciutils-2.2.8:
hal-0.5.10: Seems to work fine. It's a big change, so I would prefer
it was left until after 6.3, unless someone is already
working on it.
doxygen-1.5.4:
tcl/tk-8.4.16: LFS has gone to 8.4.17
dhcp-3.1.0: Not sure if dns patch is still necessary. 4.0.0 is also
available, but I remember having issues with it some time
ago, although I can't recall what the problem was.
curl-7.17.1: New optional dependency: libssh
samba-3.0.26a: 3.0.28 also available.
nfs-utils-1.1.1: update to ticket #2388
postgresql-8.2.5:
openldap-2.3.38: Simple update, 2.3.40 also available. 2.4 series also
out, which removes the slurpd daemon, among other changes.
cairo-1.4.14:
pango-1.19.3:
atk-1.21.5:
gtk-2.12.4: Works well for me, but I would understand delaying this,
because so many things depend on it.
shared-mime-info-0.22:
kde-3.5.8: Has a problem locating qt library. Patches at CBLFS, or set
LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable.
koffice-1.6.3:
firefox-2.0.11:
alsa-1.0.15:
xine: 1.1.9.1:
k3b-1.0.4: #2152
cups-1.2.12: simple update. 1.3.x out, but changes api, causing issues
with qt3 and gtk at least.
mplayer-1.0rc2: Not tested by myself. I use svn versions, just pointing
the release out, which would probably allow you to drop a
couple patches.
libgcrypt-1.4: Caused me some issues. Compiling curl against gnutls
built against this version caused errors when trying to
build gnupg. Do not upgrade.
If you want, I could register and open tickets in trac for some/all of
these.
Also, didn't you have a getting started guide for book development
somewhere? I looked around a little but couldn't find one. I'd like to
read it and take a shot at creating and submitting patches for some of
the above.
Later,
Robert
