Xterm should be the only thing that needs luit.  But maybe rxvt(memory?)
does too...IDK.  A long time ago there was some discussion of moving the
xorg only related packages back into the xorg section, including libdrm,
luit, Mesa, rman, and xterm, and probably need to add the old mono x
build tools back in too for legacy apps though I haven't been able to
build any flavor of VNC for a long time now, which was the only thing I
used them for (haven't needed NAS in a very long time).  The consensus
was to do so, but that hasn't been done yet.  In order to test the
xserver, under current defaults, you'll need to have xterm installed.
You could of course use any other terminal you wish to use (rxvt(?) was
popular IIRC), but you'll have to edit the default xinitrc file.
