I'd personally prefer to see them all changed to Python2, and then updated as time and testing allows. I imagine a lot of stuff is broken currently. Although Python2 is in maintenance mode, not many have adopted Python3 yet. We've had the same situation with both Java and GCC several years ago, and those were pretty easy to fix in comparison to Python3 IMO, because upstream was already working on it. This has not necessarily been the case with Python3 as of yet.
