I just attempted to install the Java JDK 7u1 with the BLFS instructions, and to my surprise it was pretty easy.
There is a small difference, since there's an actual tar.gz available from Oracle now. So now you don't have to do the instructions to run the bin file, just unpack it and then install as per the other instructions. So the beginning instructions about the bin file are useless. This was on a 32bit system so was with the i586 release. Found the tarball for this version here. http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk-7u1-download-513651.html I'm planning on trying the same with JDK 6u29 a little later to see if it runs just as easily. I haven't tried using the browser plugin or anything involving the optional components as this system is strictly a server at the moment. I excluded the sed about libmawt until I get to the point I can test against X. I'll be trying ALSA next. Everything in the terminal though seems to be running without issue... so far.
