Does anyone have use for the static > libs? In general I try to disable static wherever possible as I don't see any need for static libraries. Sometimes there isn't an easy way to do that. Eg with openssl which I updated the other day, you can disable installing the static libs with a sed to the Makefile so I added the sed to the page so that people have the option but at the end of the day it's up to the reader what they choose to do. I think --disable-static should be the default and I'd like to add it to the template.
