Note that there are still older machines that can be used with new xorg. 
For example, I have Matrox MGA card which uses xf86-video-mga driver, 
and I can use xorg server 1.12 with that one. If you look at xorg ftp, 
you will see most of those drivers are updated, so cards still exist. We 
should not remove them, yet. Also, don't remove vmware video driver, 
that is new 3D driver.
