I'd like to get the latest gimp-help (2.8.0) into the book, but there is at least one problem with it (for the moment, I have another - my gimp can't find the help - hopefully, adding some of the gnome stack will fix that), apart from the work-in-progress nature of the content : it doesn't build unless you reduce the languages it is building from the default 'everything'. All except ca (catalan) build fine in 2.8.0, but that language has problems. Current git now looks as if it will build ok, and has updates for some other languages.
But, given that we prefer releases, I've got a patched 2.8.0 building all languages ok, picking fixes from one of the devs who fixed the problems. Unfortunately, a major part of the fix is to add some missing infrastructure for catalan - the patch for that commit, mostly english text, is 3.1 MB. The remaining required patches are only about 25K, but without the 3.1MB part they are useless. So, either we pick a random snapshot until there is a later release, or I upload a .xz patch (probably about 493K). Or, I suppose we could build it with any/all languages *except* catalan - but since some catalans are prominent in i18n efforts I would find that unnecessarily offensive to them. /me is in "try not to cause offense" mode again. Whatever, we'll have to go back to explaining how to limit what gets built - it's about 40MB of files per language, and building all of them with make -j1 takes more than 90 minutes on my phonom. I'd particularly value Bruce's opinion on this, when he is around. Perhaps I should add that the 2.6 help does not address e.g. the user-visible export/save distinction introduced in 2.8, so the 2.8 help will be more useful. ĸen -- la primera vegada com tragèdia, la segona com a farsa - if translate.google is to be believed: no parlo català bé -- http://linuxfromscratch.org/mailman/listinfo/blfs-dev FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/faq.html Unsubscribe: See the above information page
