Looks like the in-tree version might have some NTDS specific hacks in both the kdc and libs. Heimdal git looks much closer than 1.5.3, though much further along, but ATM, doesn't look like current stable will work with Samba4. I may be confused, but home page says that 1.5.2 is current stable, so is 1.5.3 is a development version? Hopefully 1.5.4 is sooner, rather than later.
