This is a skinned way of selecting a file (white on black, and for
me much harder to read with tiny text, but usable) and either
immediately playing it, or adding it to the playlist.

 I guess that the "there is no MRL" error message when xine starts
up without a file is intended to prompt people to use the MRL
browser.

 Still no progress in working out why a particular commit broke the
"Open -> File" processing, but the situation isn't as broken as I
thought ;-)
