many thanks for this - it was enormously helpful in getting my new A4 ('Trinity') to boot a KMS kernel using a backup from the box it is replacing. Long story, if anyone cares - I hadn't realisd the ARUBA needed the BTC firmware - without it I get a message it is loading the ARUBA microcode, then a timeout, nnd then the screen is trashed and the box locks up. Not even MagicSysRQ worked, so nothing made it to the logs. With a boot arg to override radeon.modesetting it didn't attempt to load Microcode so a tty worked but gave no indication of what was missing. BTW - it turned out that the realtek firmware was only needed with an old -rc kernel, all the recent released kernels seem to find it ok. Firmware is nearly as much fun as the bios settings. Now I'm sorting out the (newer) 32-bit system - had to build the network card into bzImage, "modules_install" reported an error. Weird, maybe I'll try 32-bit modules whenever I build a 32-bit system here. ĸen -- das eine Mal als Tragödie, das andere Mal als Farce -- http://linuxfromscratch.org/mailman/listinfo/blfs-dev FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/faq.html Unsubscribe: See the above information page
