On the rare occasions when I need to look at a postscript text
file, and don't have TeX intalled, I normally use evince (built with
libspectre). While testing this on 7.5, I discovered that .ps files
were not displaying. Now that I've had time to google, I found a
link from arch pointing to a ghostscript bug. People say this also
affects okular, and is also seen in (at least) ubuntu.

 The gs fix is apparently:
http://git.ghostscript.com/?p=ghostpdl.git;a=patch;h=e64ac4c8

which is rather big. There is also a workaround for those of us
using the commandline : LANG=C when invoking evince or any other
viewer.

Supposedly this is to do with locales using a comma as a decimal
separator, but in fact it happens for me in en_GB. I think I'll try
that patch in my next build, because this is the sort of thing that
annoys me.

N.B. 'display' from ImageMagick doesn't show this problem, but it
isn't useful unless the postscript file has a background (most
don't) because it will put the text on a chequerboard silver-grey
background which makes it incredibly difficult to read.
