For (b), I agree.  For (a), I had that with lxde.  I changed the
config file to just use xfce - Now, xfce shuts down [ drops back to
a tty in a second or two, puts out a message, then nothing until it
powers off.  Similar behaviour to gdm when I abandonned that - ok
unless the initscripts break ;)

Probably also reboots from xfce, but I haven't tried that recently.

 Probably not, although the naming might mislead people about where
/usr/lib/sqlite3.8.6 came from.  I assume that building the lib from
within sqlite, as we did for a few hours, might change that : I will
have to check which box I did that on - at the moment I'm
*struggling* with a lualatex font problem [ looks as if
luaotfload-tool will fix it, but now my script is dieing ] and it
might be a while until I get around to checking.

 For No.3, no opinion - it doesn't appear to affect anything I'm
currently using.
