When I tested build instructions, my entire system was built in chroot, which was entered using chroot command from the end of LFS chapter 6. I was using KDE's konsole as my terminal emulator. And guess what? I didn't run into the issue. But - I did have /etc/shells and all that stuff before starting the build of any package in BLFS since the first thing I did was create files from the initial chapter. It was just recently that I discovered it was an issue with xterm (and probably similar) thanks to Pierre. -- Note: My last name is not Krejzi.
