Took all ay until now, Tue Mar 10 17:42:59 GMT 2015 (14:42:59 local

pulseauddio from this LFS7.6. Installed vlc-2.2.0, then.

I know a lot you do a lot of music. I'm trying to test music players
but can't seem to get audacious, paraole, vlc, or amarok to
recognize a device.

Starting from the beginning, I can mount and read a data file on the
cdrom/dvd fine.

With mplayer I can play an ogg file on the hard disk without
problem.

From the command line, if I insert a cdrom with mplayer, I use:

mplayer -cdrom-device /dev/sr0 cdda://

I get 1-2 seconds of play followed by a second or so pause... and
repeat.

mplayer dvdnav:// -nocache -mouse-movements -dvd-device /dev/sr0

I get the menus, click in "filme" and it plays.

For me, I was testing from the command line -- no X, no mouse. Without the libcdio libraries, it did not work properly.

Had to rebuild audacious and plugins for libpulse, but needed first
libcddb, libcdio, libcdio-paranoia. It plays from comand line (first
message expected, as pulseaudio has been removed, seems some audio lib
or plugin still looks for it:

I did have pulse in the system, but had disabled it for several apps. 5.0 is not giving me a lot of problems. It's something we need to investigate in the coming months.

Thanks for taking your time to do this.
