I have had the same problem here with VLC.
It was solved by configuring the kernel with :
Processor type and features :
Timer frequency : 1000Hz
CONFIG_HZ_1000=y
CONFIG_HZ=1000
Now, vlc can play video without pausing/buffering all the time.
