While exploring whether old libXfont is still needed (for most
modern desktops it is not - details to follow) I noted some problems
with glxgears (it dies in some window managers).

After further testing, I assume something in Mesa (or, less likely,
xorg-server) has changed. I failed to get a backtrace, and it works
on my preferred wm so I'm merely noting that there seems to be a
problem.

It works fine in icewm, xfce, kf5+plasma.

It eventually stops (usually after some moving, resizing, or
overlaying some of it with another window) in fluxbox, openbox,
sawfish, twm. Even in these, GL screensavers from xscreensaver, and
the Gears screensaver, work fine. I recall that I tried to build
the mesa-demos package a couple of years ago and failed totally, so
I guess the code has bit-rotted.
