OK, it looks like it was a false alarm. There is still nothing on the OpenJPEG site. The thing is, at the moment I am running Debian Jessie because my LFS machine became practically unusable and looked like it was about to die, and I had to get a new box and OS up and running quickly. I did not realise just how *old* the software on Jessie is (libpng-1.2 WTF!). So Jessie upgrades may be irrelevant to anyone running up-to-date versions of the software. Apologies for the noise. I will be more cautious in future.
