I think the vast majority of people using these applications on linux
(and probably on the BSDs and anything else) start them from a
desktop menu or an icon - in either case any text output usually goes
to /dev/null. So most users probably never see the messages.
The *developers* might start them from some sort of term, to see
what is reported on their own builds (probably using dev versions of
everything).
But yes, a review from upstream might be 'interesting'.
