Hello.

I'd like to recommend that BLFS use the no-namespace version of docbook-xsl
(known as docbook-xsl-nons).

Here's my reasoning:

Samba uses xsltproc (from the libxslt package) to generate its man pages from
XML documents. Even though the man pages get processed without any errors, I
do receive the following tidbit while these man pages get processed:

"Note: namesp. add : added namespace before processing smb.conf"

This "Note" is displayed for every man page that gets written. The resulting
man pages do not appear to be formatted correctly. Many of the hidden
formatting elements of the pages (.SS, .IX, etc.) are clearly visible in the
files themselves, which throws off the formatting.

I discovered through the new homepage of docbook-xsl that there are two
versions of docbook-xsl: one that uses DocBook versions 5+ and one for DocBook
versions < 5. I'm assuming they're referring to DocBook-XSL when they say 5+
and < 5. BLFS uses DocBook-XSL version 4.5, and according to
http://cdn.docbook.org/ the recommended docbook-xsl is the one without
namespace support. After installing the alternative docbook-xsl-nons, and
re-generating the man pages for Samba, I didn't see any Note about adding
namespaces, and the resulting man pages look properly formatted.

I've since re-built my BLFS system and have seen (so far anyway) no formatting
problems with any man pages using docbook-xsl-nons.

Regards,

Ryan
