I do not think there is a conflict with system libraries. It is a conflict between ptlib libraries, and odbc libraries. As of disabling odbc (which is a compatibility library for Winxx), nothing in the book uses ptlib with odbc (and actually, odbc is deemed optional). So I do not think there is much harm in disabling it.
