It is the minor revision currently in use by Debian 9.6. > (Projected EOL Jan. 2023) And I believe it lacks some of this years fixes for the meltdown/specre/l1tf vulnerabilities because so much has changed in the kernel internals. If I'm right, 4.14.0 probably works, but more recent stable 4.14 kernels are probably also affected because it's a regulatory issue. And in general, you can usually run an older kernel than is in the book, no need to go back to 8.0.
