When I was struggling with rustc-1.32.0 I looked at debian sid
(I found rustc-1.31.1 but a link from there led me to librsust
1.32.0) and in that they point to fedora as being more up to date.

Well, fedora has (one, small) patch to build rustc with python3.
They also, at least two days ago, used the broken "use sys llvm"
approach, so not perfect.

However, the reason they can use python3 there is that they continue
to use the old './configure' script rather than upstream's preferred
config.toml.  So, I guess that python3 could again be used - but it
would feel like reverting to autoconf where an upstream has got
meson working.
