Earlier this afternoon, my laptop locked up while building
qtwebengine. Shit happens, particularly on -rc kernels (I'm still
on 5.0-rc7 until I find time to have another look at my config :)
and it seems that in any case I had forgotten to update qt5.

But when I went to look at the qtwebengine log, it only shouwed that
it had built the build system.

After building qt-5.12.2 I kept an eye on webengine and was
astounded to discover that my log was stuck on 16255 bytes (i.e. the
end of the build system). Now that the build has completed, the log
contains 28 MB.

To create the log I run commands like:

 some-command | tee -a mylog 2>&1

Presumably the build system detects it is not writing to a terminal.

I've seen similar "delay until finished" on testsuites, particularly
perl, but I've never *noticed* this before.

It is said that there are two great unsolved problems in computer
science: naming, cache invalidation, and off-by-one errors.
