I'm not sure what our policy is on the subject, but the symlink /usr/bin/vi pointing to vim is not in the instructions in BLFS. Of course, if a user installs BLFS-vim on top of LFS-vim, the link is still there, but if she/he uses a package manager to remove LFS-vi before installing BLFS-vi, it is very likely that the link is removed and not created again.
On the BLFS-gcc page, we create again the symlinks that are in LFS, telling: " The following symbolic links are not needed if you have followed the LFS instructions, since they have been already created.
