Well spotted!  No, it doesn't.

I don't have that anywhere in my scripts nowadays, and of course
/tmp is a tmpfs so it gets cleared down at reboot.  Oh, in my
createfiles I have

/tmp/.ICE-unix dir 1777 root root

Looking at the book (xorg-server), .X11-unix has been added after
that.  I obviously missed it.  Unfortunately, no change, startx
still fails on the phenom/ATI.

I doubt I will be looking at this in the next 48 hours, but thanks
for that item.
