I saw on gimp-dev earlier this month that gimp-2.99 (git) requires
introspection, so I'm not surprised that the latest babl release also
needs that.

From meson_options.txt:

option('enable-gir', type: 'boolean', value: true, description: 'enable GObject-Introspection (GIR)')

so it is not required. Since gimp will soon require it, I'll mate gobject recommended in babl.
