Actually, apart from cairomm, the C++ GTK stack has not been updated, so gtkmm3 and pangomm require cairomm-1.0 (whose last release is cairomm-1.14).
I got an error while building gnome-system-monitor because of that. The other users of gtkmm3 are gparted, inkscape, and pavucontrol, as a required dep in all cases. I do not have gparted nor pavucontrol, and I do not use inkscape very often. But actually, it cannot be built if cairomm-1.14 is not installed, and it cannot start if cairomm-1.14 is removed (using porg) after building cairomm-1.16. I'll add that page to the book. Both versions can be installed side to side without overlapping each other.
