Ok, that looks pretty useful - they seem to be intended for a static
network like the one I described, right? No detection of available
nodes, just a network identifier (SSID?) configured into the scripts
with a static IP? Basically just like setting up a wired ethernet
connection? Looks like what I need.

What about some of my other questions - software, security, etc? The
script you've given me refers to the iwconfig command, which I gather
comes from the wireless_tools package - is any other software required? 

And for security, I'm guessing I can configure WEP by setting the
SECURITY_MODE and KEY# values in the scripts (would the values for those
come from the access point?). Do you know about using WPA (since that
seems superior to WEP), or is that something I'll have to work out for
myself?
