Hey folks, relax. I'm getting mail out. Key changes were

1. Tell fetchmail it was on localhost, as it lost touch with the mail
server on genius.chateau.dec. I have localhost as 127.0.0.1 in
/etc/hosts
2. Changes to postfix's main.cf
     myhostname = declan.moriarty
     myorigin = iol.ie

Postfix then provided [EMAIL PROTECTED] as the origin, which even
esat bt (aka iol.ie, aka BT Ireland, aka ???) could route to.

Thanks to all who lifted fingers over a keyboard on this
