Hi everyone,
I have been installing and using blfs for quite some time. But I have been a
fan of KDE, so far. This time I am building blfs6(blfs-book-cvs-2005-05-16)
and have decided to install gnome2. I havent had a very good experience so
far.
Trying on P4.
Firstly, there are numerous dependencies and secondly, even after going
through all that 'torture' the results that I have obtained are no where as
comparable to what one gets after loading kde and that too with much less
effort.
I have installed all the GNOME Core Packages, but when Gnome starts I get
the following deficiencies:
No start icon on the panel. only terminal and file-browser icon are there.
There is no control center. When I try to build the applets I find that
there are no applets (or their icons) available.
Is this normal with GNOME? What happened to the equivalents of kde's editors
control-centre, office, kdevelop, and scores of other utilities, games and
applications?
Will some gnome enthusiasts put me wise please?
My Regards to all,
RSP
Linux is great But ..............
